Rachel Trethewey
Rachel Trethewey read History at St Edmund Hall, Oxford where she won the Philip Geddes Prize for student journalism. In her subsequent career in journalism she wrote features for the Daily Mail and Daily Express and reviewed books for The Independent. She was education correspondent at Westcountry Television. Returning to academia, she has an MA in Victorian Studies and a PHD in English from Exeter University.
Rachel has written six books, MISTRESS OF THE ARTS (Headline Review, 2002) PEARLS BEFORE POPPIES (The History Press, 2018) BEFORE WALLIS (The History Press, 2018) and THE CHURCHILL GIRLS was published by The History Press in the UK and as THE CHURCHILL SISTERS by St Martin’s Press in the US, both in 2021. Her book MOTHERS OF THE MIND (2023) received the ‘Antonia Fraser Award’ from the Society of Authors and Rachel’s latest biography MUV: THE STORY OF THE MITFORD GIRLS’ MOTHER was chosen by the Daily Mail as ‘Book of the Week’ and described by Nicky Haslam in The Oldie as ‘intriguing and informative’.
Rachel is an elected fellow of the Royal Historical Society and lives in Devon with her family.
