Annabelle Thorpe
Annabelle Thorpe is an award-winning travel writer and author, who has spent twenty years writing for The Times, Sunday Times Travel Magazine, The Guardian, Daily Express and many other magazines, periodicals and websites. She spent six years on the Times travel desk, before leaving to become Deputy Travel Editor at the Express, and then taking up the same position at The Observer.
Her debut novel, THE PEOPLE WE WERE BEFORE, was published by Quercus in 2015, and, set in Croatia, it tells the story of the Denkovic family before, during and after the Civil War of the early 1990’s. Her second novel, WHAT LIES WITHIN, was published by Quercus in 2018, and examines the destabilising effects of an expat life, set in Morocco and Qatar.
Annabelle’s novel, THE ENEMY OF LOVE is the first in a series set in wartime Italy and was originally published in hardback by Head of Zeus in April 2023. The paperback followed in Summer 2024 with the new title of THE VILLAGE TRATTORIA and its sequel THE MOONLIT PIAZZA was published in 2025.
Annabelle’s passion for travel inspired her first non-fiction title which is a joyous ‘Grand Tour’ of the high days and holidays we so cherish as a nation. THE GREAT ESCAPE: Britain’s 400 year Love Affair with Holidays was published by DK in 2026.
Annabelle has travelled to over fifty countries and still has itchy feet.
