Vanessa de Haan

Vanessa de Haan is an author and journalist who has written for various newspapers, magazines and podcasts. She has worked in-house for media companies including Channel 5 and the Daily Telegraph, but spent most of her office-based working life at The Spectator magazine, predominantly as a production editor but also contributing features.

In 2005 Vanessa moved from London to Devon to concentrate on her own writing and never left. She completed the MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University and was a columnist on the Western Morning News for almost three years (writing under the name Zoë Kenyon). When not writing, Vanessa is a proofreader and copy editor. She also helped to set up Tribe family life magazine in Devon and Cornwall.

Her first book THE RESTLESS SEA is a historical novel set in Scotland, Russia and London during the Arctic convoys of the Second World War.  It was published in 2017 by HarperCollins.  Vanessa’s sweeping second novel, A TIME TO LIVE, set in the troubled era between Britain’s two world wars, will be published by HarperCollins in 2023.

Vanessa lives and works in the Blackdown HIlls on the Devon / Somerset border, where she is also learning to lay hedges.
