Olga Prinku

Olga Prinku is an artist, maker and originator of the craft of flowers-on-tulle embroidery. She likes to say she embroiders using nature as her thread – using a variety of techniques to combine dried and preserved flowers and other plant-based natural materials with tulle fabric.

Olga came up with the idea of flowers-on-tulle embroidery in 2016, inspired by her love of wreath-making and textiles. Her early experiments with embroidering dried flowers into tulle fabric took off on Instagram, leading to collaborations on homeware and fashion with brands such as Anthropologie, Swarovski and 3Paradis.

Olga’s artworks feature motifs drawn from nature and traditional folkloric embroidery patterns or tapestries. She sees her artistic work as paying homage to the beauty of nature by combining natural elements in new ways, and reflecting the fragility yet strength of the natural world around us. She has been exhibited at venues such as the Aga Khan Centre Gallery and the Stitch Festival, and was selected to participate in Collect Open in 2023.

Olga loves to forage for flowers, grasses and foliage on walks near her home in North Yorkshire, where she lives with her husband and son. She was born and raised in Moldova, and draws inspiration from the folk art and handicrafts of her country of birth.

Olga’s first book, DRIED FLOWER EMBROIDERY, was published by Quadrille in 2021.
